Study of the shape of naticid and muricid borings in plan view in eocene prey from southeastern Nigeria
The geometry or shape of the outer opening of 1346 boreholes made by naticids and muricids in eleven gastropod and nine bivalve species from the Eocene Ameki Formation, southeastern Nigeria, has been studied using statistical methods. The preyed shells are small sized (< 10 mm) and medium thick....

Zusammenfassung: | The geometry or shape of the outer opening of 1346 boreholes made by naticids and muricids in eleven gastropod and nine bivalve species from the Eocene Ameki Formation, southeastern Nigeria, has been studied using statistical methods. The preyed shells are small sized (< 10 mm) and medium thick. The analysis indicates very strongly that the holes are not circular within the limits of statistical variation but distinctly oval. |
