Diane Smyth deputy editor of the British Journal of Photography discusses recent photography trends. She discusses the work of a new group of image makers including Sam Falls and Lucas Blalock, who have shaken up still life photography with acid bright colour and photographers such as Nico Krijno, David Brandon Geeting and Jeff Hahn who are using sites such as Tumblr and Instagram to promote themselves, creating constantly updated streams of images rather than more formal websites and winning big commissions. She also notes self-published photobooks, 'cyber feminism' and photography and the enduring influence of black-and-white photography in the 'Gentlewoman' magazine.
