Properties of terpene-inducing factor extracted from adults of the sweet potato weevil, Cylas formicarius Fabricius (Coleoptera: Brenthidae) [on sweet potato]

Terpene phytoalexins were produced by sweet potato roots in response to the invasion over a period of 24 hrs by adult sweet potato weevils, Cylas formicarius. We postulated that some heat-unstable pectolytic enzyme of the adult weevil acted as a terpene-inducing factor.
