Methyl bromide fumigation followed by cold storage as treatment for Anastrepha suspensa (Diptera: Tephritidae) in grapefruit

The combination of fumigation-cold storage treatments found to be most effective for controlling infestations of Anastrepha suspensa (Loew) in grapefruit were 40 g of methyl bromide (MB) per m super(3), followed by storage at 15.6 degree C for 3 weeks, and 32 g of MB per m super(3) at 10 degree C fo...

Zusammenfassung:The combination of fumigation-cold storage treatments found to be most effective for controlling infestations of Anastrepha suspensa (Loew) in grapefruit were 40 g of methyl bromide (MB) per m super(3), followed by storage at 15.6 degree C for 3 weeks, and 32 g of MB per m super(3) at 10 degree C for 3 weeks, 24 g of MB per m super(3) and 7.2 degree C for 3 weeks, and 32 g of MB per m super(3) and 7.2 degree C for 17 days. Insertion of a regimen of 15.6 degree C for 1 week (conditioning of fruit to avoid chilling injury) between fumigation and the cold storage period did not reduce the effectiveness of the two treatments involving storage at 7.2 degree C.
