Zusammenfassung:	Experiments were carried out to assess the composition of leachates from waste piles of oil shale and their effects on the common blue-green alga, Anabaena flos-aquae; the results are summarized in tables and graphs, and discussed. High concentrations of leachate inhibited growth of the alga and affected the photosynthetic system; some of these effects could be attributed to precipitation of calcium carbonate. Low concentrations had little or no effect. The environmental significance of these effects is discussed.
