Zusammenfassung:In the past few years, Australia has ceased to be a whaling nation and has passed some of the world's strongest anti-whaling legislation. This article discusses that dramatic policy change, The author reviews Australia's involvement in the Whaling industry, and outlines the public opinion campaign which convinced the government that its policy should be changed. The author then analyses the basis of the policy change: Sir Sydney Frost's inquiry into whales and whaling. After discussing the new legislation, the author concludes with an examination of Australia's role in the International Whaling Commission.
