Boll weevil capture efficiency: position and density of traps and grandlure dosage [Anthonomus grandis, cotton pest, Mississippi]

Zusammenfassung: | Effect of trap density and grandlure dosage on efficiency of capturing Anthonomus grandis Boheman were studied in 1978 and 1979 in Choctaw County, Miss. As the amount of grandlure was increased at a given trap density, capture increased, and as traps were increased at a given grandlure dosage per ha, capture increased. When half the number of traps were used and the grandlure dosage was doubled, the capture was statistically greater than with twice the number of traps and half the amount of grandlure. In 1978 89.4%, and in 1979 87.1%, of the traps were intact and operating when serviced, and traps located above the average canopy captured 9.45 boll weevils per trap as compared to 2.96 boll weevils per trap located below the average canopy when serviced. Time required for servicing traps by walking the fields on a hectare basis was from 4.5 to 5.7 min for 2.5 traps per ha, 6.5 to 7.8 min/ha for 5 traps per ha, 11.0 to 12.2 min/ha for 10traps per ha. |
