Zinc accumulation in beech mycorrhizae — a mechanism of zinc tolerance?
Zn accumulation is found in the sheath of beech mycorrhiza using EDX analysis of thin sections. Zn is accumulated within the cytoplasm with a gradient in Zn concentration across the hyphal sheath indicating a physiological differentiation. The results are discussed with regard to metal tolerance.
