Zusammenfassung:	A novel brominated diphenyl methane derivative, rawsonol, has been isolated from the green alga Avrainvillea rawsoni, and its structure determined by chemical and spectral methods. Rawsonol which is a methyl ether formed via condensation/methylation of two molecules of the known metabolite avrainvilleol, inhibited the activity of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase.
