Zusammenfassung: | In tree trunk-simulating, drainpipe traps, western North American T. lineatum (Olivier) responded strongly to the aggregation pheromone, lineatin, but showed only a trace response to ethanol and alpha -pinene. The responses by T. lineatum in England to ethanol and alpha -pinene and to lineatin were comparable. Ethanol at a release rate of 1 g/day inhibited response by North American T. lineatum to lineatin, whereas ethanol at 310 and 500 mg/day acted synergistically with lineatin for European beetles. alpha -Pinene was synergistic with lineatin in tree trunk-simulating traps for European T. lineatum . but it was not necessary to combine alpha -pinene with lineatin and ethanol to achieve optimal responses. There was no interaction between ethanol and alpha -pinene, lineatin, and visual stimuli for North American beetles. Ethanol and alpha -pinene at low release rates did not inhibit the response of North American T. lineatum to lineatin, but retained their synergistic effect on Gnathotrichus sp. pheromones when they combined with lineatin in the same trap. These data suggest that, for widely distributed species, pest managment decisions should be made on the basis of data generated from the target population. |
