Zusammenfassung:The use of a modified fluorometric procedure for the determination of paralytic shellfish poisons in New England shellfish is described. Hot 0.1 M hydrochloric acid extracts used in the standard mouse bioassay are treated with alkaline hydrogen peroxide, and the resulting fluorescence is reas. Results on the soft shell clam (Mya arenaria ) averaged 22% higher than those of the mouse bioassay and results with the mussel (Mytilus edulis ) averaged 11% higher.
