Zusammenfassung:	The centric diatom Microsolenia simplex gen. et sp. nov. and the pennate diatom Fragilaria opephoroides sp. nov. are described. These diatoms were found in Japanese neritic waters. M. simplex is a pelagic diatom and it caused an autumnal red-tide in Tokyo Bay in 1987. F. opephoroides is a benthic diatom and it was collected from tidal-flats in Mikawa Bay and Ohmi Bay. These diatoms are so small that it was necessary to use electron microscopes for studying their morphology.
