A reevaluation of the toxicity of coal conversion process waters [Daphnia magna]

The toxicity of coal gasification process waters to Daphnia magna was investigated. The study focused on the toxic contributions of ammonia in the effluents. Phenol and un-ionized ammonia were the dominant toxic compounds. Treated effluent was observed to be less toxic than untreated process waters.
