Zusammenfassung: | The formal definition of the Murihiku Supergroup is amended, and constituent groups within the supergroup are rationalised. The age of the Murihiku Supergroup is extended back with the inclusion of sequences of Late Permian age, but is restricted upwards with the proposal of the Waipa Supergroup. Topmost Murihiku Supergroup is basal Late Jurassic. The lithological content of the supergroup is broadened to include limestone. Groups recognised herein are defined or in most instances redefined. They are: Kuriwao, North Range, Taringatura, Diamond Peak, Ferndale, Mataura, and Richmond in the South Island, and Newcastle, Rengarenga, and Kirikiri in the North Island. Apotu and Huriwai groups previously accommodated within Murihiku Supergroup are now part of the Waipa Supergroup. |
