Zusammenfassung:	The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has warned that patients being treated for smoking cessation with varenicline may develop depression. A case of successful treatment for depression with varenicline is described. The patient’s depression recurred several times with inadvertent varenicline discontinuation, then remitted again after resuming varenicline. The literature supporting the potential use of varenicline for depression is reviewed.
