A bacterial cleavage of the C-glucosyl bond of mangiferin and bergenin

Two C-glucosyls, mangiferin and bergenin, were transformed to the respective aglycones, 1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxyxanthone and 4- O-methylgallic acid, by a mixture of human intestinal bacteria.
