Zusammenfassung: | Infection with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) can lead to a variety of central nervous system (CNS) complications, either indirectly as a result of opportunistic infections, opportunistic neoplasia and systemic organ failure, or, more directly, as a result of infection of the brain by this retrovirus. This review focuses on the conditions known or suspected to relate to a direct effect of HIV-1 on the brain with particular attention to the AIDS dementia complex. |
