Zusammenfassung:This paper presents a brief review on the bilayer lipid membrane (BLM) system and its potential applications as a chemical/biosensor. The applications reviewed include substrate‐enzyme complexes, antigen‐antibody‐complement interactions, electrochemical assay of drugs, as well as light‐sensitive BLMs for optical sensors. Suggestions for improvements in the development of BLM‐based electrochemical biosensors for the clinical setting are also presented.
