Factors attributed to these disparities include differences in lifestyle, environment, genetics, and tumor biology. As we strive to personalize cancer therapy, it will be imperative that we understand the relative contributions of each factor so that we may apply this knowledge in choosing the best treatment for each individual, regardless of his or her racial or ethnic heritage.
