Zusammenfassung: | [...]a recent prospective randomised double-blinded, sham-controlled study demonstrated that the 'liberation' intervention was not effective for slowing MS disease progression and that it may even exacerbate underlying disease activity. 10 In conclusion, given the available clinical trial data, calls for further PTA trials, albeit controlled as rightly suggested by the Cochrane group, are in my opinion not necessary: 1) scientifically, because there is no causal link between CCSVI and MS, 2) economically, given the costs of such trials and the present reduction in resources and 3) ethically, since it would continue to nourish false hopes-the true evil-among MS patients and their families. |
