Zusammenfassung: | Sweet sorghum has characteristics that favor its use for alcohol production. The comparative yields of six cultivars grown at two sites in California during a three-year period are reported. All cultivars matured faster at Davis than at Salinas. Compared with sugarbeet, the sorghum cultivars featured low sugar concentrations. An improvement in sugar concentrations would greatly improve the efficiency of the crop as an ethanol feedstock. However, the cultivars tested showed a potential for producing 475-575 gal/ethanol/acre. It appears that sweet sorghum would produce well in many areas of the state. |
