Zusammenfassung:In the surgical intensive care unit (SICU), the patient developed acute respiratory distress syndrome, which required intubation and subsequent tracheostomy for prolonged ventilator dependence. After transfusion of six units of packed red blood cells, the patient was deemed to have failed nonoperative man- agement and was emergently taken to the operating room for definitive control of bleeding ulcers.
