Zusammenfassung: | The Romanian subjunctive is formed by the combination of a preverbal marker sa whose status is an object of discussion, and of a finite verb inflected either in the indicative (first and second persons) or in the Romance morphological subjunctive (third person). In this study, it is shown that the emergence of the preverbal sa is an illustration of the Guillaumean notion of deflexivity. The paper details the workings of deflexivity in the case of the Romanian subjunctive and relates it with analogous facts such as the Romanian infinitive and similar aspects in a few other languages.
