Marine fish stock assessment

In spite of considerable difficulties, substantial progress has been made in recent years in the management of commercial fish stocks in the North Atlantic. Biological fish stock assessment has made a decisive contribution to this development. This is illustrated with the herring in the North Sea and cod off Labrador, as samples. Independent management of single fish stocks will in future increasingly be replaced by action to ensure the management and protection of marine ecosystems.
