Zusammenfassung:Satellite data of the infrared sea surface temperature scanner (AVHRR) and the multispectral Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS) have been evaluated for their capability to determine heterogeneity and variability in the Baltic, in order to improve the evidence of periodically taken samples on monitoring stations. Both water color and the sea surface temperature data are a useful tool to indicate biological and hydrographical phenomena and should be used to interpret pelagic monitoring data in the Baltic.
