Zusammenfassung: | Various aspects related to manipulating bedding materials and PLT super(TM) to reduce NH sub(3) emissions from broiler manure were discussed. Treatments were incubated for 11 days at 25 degree C and 98% relative humidity. Ammonia was trapped in 0.1 N H sub(2)SO sub(4) and measured colorimetrically as NH super(+) sub(4), and CO sub(2) was monitored with an infrared analyzer. The research on manipulating the C/N ratio of broiler litter showed that bedding materials namely wheat straw, wood shavings, and sawdust with C(total)/N(total) > 50 or C(biodegradable)/N(total) > 40, had low NH sub(3) emissions. Peanut hulls exhibited high NH sub(3) volatilization because they had low C/N ratios. PLT super(TM) decreased pH, NH sub(3), and CO sub(2) emissions during a two weeks incubation study. No significant interactions on NH sub(3) emissions were detected between PLT super(TM) and bedding materials. |
