Zusammenfassung:Effects of paraquat on oxidative stress parameters and polyamine levels in two freshwater invertebrates were investigated. Bioassays were performed using the freshwater oligochaete Lumbriculus variegatus and the gastropod Biomphalaria glabrata as experimental animal models. Paraquat treatment did not modify L. variegatus superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, while SOD activity was significantly decreased in B. glabrata snails after 48 h of treatment. L. variegatus were more resistant than B. glabrata to paraquat-induced stress oxidative processes. In L. variegatus, the formulated product did not induce membrane lipoperoxidation and only a transient decrease in catalase (CAT) activity was observed, while the levels of polyamines were modified in relation to control organisms.
