The presence of water‐soluble glucan synthases is essential for adherence of Streptococcus mutans to glass surfaces
The sucrose‐dependent water‐insoluble glucan synthase‐adherence system of Streptococcus mutans was tested using highly purified glucosyltransferases. The presence of water‐soluble glucan synthases was found to be essential for S. mutans adherence to a glass surface.
