Zusammenfassung:The spatial variability of soil properties and 2,4-D sorption in a hummocky field as affected by landscape position and soil depth was investigated. Seventy-two soil cores collected at 5-mm intervals along a transect were segmented by soil horizon and landscape position. Total carbonate content was determined using a volumetric calcimeter that measured evolved carbon dioxide upon addition of 6 M HCl.FeCl sub(2) to a soil sample. Soil organic carbon significantly decreased, and soil pH and soil carbonate content significantly increased with soil depth. Soil organic content was greatest in the A horizon and significantly decreased with depth to only 0.54% plus or minus cv = 0.61 in the B horizon and 0.37% plus or minus cv=0.41 in C horizon.
