Zusammenfassung:The current knowledge of photochemical weathering of petroleum and its fractions in the environment is reviewed, mostly in relation to petroleum films over water. Literature results are compared with the authors' work. The effects of photochemical oxidation of petroleum on the physical and biological properties of petroleum are examined as well as suggested mechanisms for the observed transformations.
