How to shape up conservation-led regeneration initiatives regarding community needs?/Koruma oncelikli kentsel canlandirma projeleri topluluk ihtiyaclarina gore nasil bicimlendirilebilir?

Identifies community needs and aspirations in deprived historic neighbourhoods in Istanbul, Turkey, and presents a case study of an EU- funded conservation and regeneration programme that was implemented in the Fener and Balat (F&B) district of the city in the mid-1990s. The article assesses the strengths and weaknesses of this initiative, using qualitative and quantitative data that was gathered between 1990 and 2000. It also makes recommendations for future conservation-led regeneration schemes.
