4-Chloro-3-methylphenol: Salmonella/mammalian-microsome mutagenicity test and subacute toxicity test in rats

Mutagenicity and toxicity tests were conducted to document information on the mutagenic potential and oral toxicity of the bactericide 4-chloro-3-methylphenol (CMP). Groups of rats were fed 0-400 MG cmp/kg body weight/day for 28 days, and the Salmonella-mammalian microsome test was performed. CMPp a...

Zusammenfassung:Mutagenicity and toxicity tests were conducted to document information on the mutagenic potential and oral toxicity of the bactericide 4-chloro-3-methylphenol (CMP). Groups of rats were fed 0-400 MG cmp/kg body weight/day for 28 days, and the Salmonella-mammalian microsome test was performed. CMPp at doses of 1.28-180 MG per plate did not show mutagenic potential in the tester strains used, with and without s9 activation. In the subacute toxicity tests, the rats in the highest dosed group exhibited a significant decrease in weight gain during the last week of the study. No other clinical signs of adverse effects were observed. The no-effect level was determined to be 200 mg/kg body weight/day for rats.
