Zusammenfassung:Isolated rat hepatocytes were used to study halothane hepatotoxicity. Halothane impairs the energy status of isolated hepatocytes, an effect that is probably due to the anaesthetic itself and not to a metabolite. Lipid peroxidation and a decrease in the cytochrome P-450 level are only observed in cells from phenobarbitone-pretreated rats and are dependent on the oxygen concentration under which the cells are cultured. These effects are probably caused by a metabolite.
