Zusammenfassung: | There is a limit for the deterministic prediction of the movement of geophysical fluids, due to the nonlinearity inherent in the fluid motion. For the atmosphere this limit is regarded as of the order of two weeks, and for synoptic scale phenomena in the ocean it may be of the order of several tens of days. Some possibilities are suggested of approaching the problem of prediction of actual oceanic conditions beyond the above limit, e.g., by combining regularities in various levels of space-time scales, by using various kinds of parameterizations. |
