Zusammenfassung:After 80 yr of fire suppression, US forests now contain enormous quantities of small trees and brush. Part of the ongoing USFS effort to reduce hazardous fuels and restore damaged ecosystems includes finding markets for the removed material to help offset the costs of thinning. Potential uses for small-diameter and low-valued forest thinnings are identified. These encompass structural applications, pulp chips, wood fiber products, wood composites, compost and mulch, wood energy, and biofuel.
