Zusammenfassung: | Researchers adopted gamma-ray spectrometric techniques to evaluate uranium activity and assess the presence of depleted uranium (DU) in samples of soil collected from camping sites used by the Greek expeditionary force in Kosovo. Analyses of super(238)U levels were enacted using measured values of the 63.3 keV and 92.38 keV emissions of its first daughter nuclide, super(234)Th. Strategies used to calculate the isotopic ratio of super(238)U/ super(235)U in the samples are discussed. Evidence indicated that the U activity in the samples ranged from 48-112 Bq/kg, while the activity ratio of super(238)U/ super(235)U was an average of approximately 23.1. |
