Best Available Technologies for the Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry

The use of Best Available Technologies (BATs) is an important factor in environmental permit regulations in industrial settings in the European Union, under the integrated pollution prevention and control directive. These techniques and operations produce the best environmental results at reasonable costs. In the Flanders region of Belgium, BATs are established at the sector level. A BAT report has been drafted for the "Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry". A key issue is the use of high quality water with its associated costs and environmental consequences.
