Zusammenfassung: | An equation for the correlation and prediction of toxicities of 32 compounds that act by a general nonreactive toxicity mechanism in golden orfe fish is proposed. The equation was based on the solute molar volume and solvatochromic parameters that measured dipolarity /polarizability, hydrogen-bond acceptor basicity and hydrogen-bond donor acidity of the solute. Carboxylic acid esters were more toxic than predicted by the equation because of in vivo hydrolysis and that alkanes, alkylbenzenes and chlorobenzenes were less toxic than predicted because of sequestration in hydrophobic pockets in fish blood haemoglobin.
