Suburban Decline: The Next Urban Crisis

With their small, outmoded, and deteriorating housing, many post-World War II bedroom suburbs are in urgent need of help. The US faces two challenges in coping with suburban decline--the first is to recognize that such decline already is commonplace and growing worse, as well as to understand the real forces that foster it; and the second is to begin to develop needed policies and to take coordinated steps at the local, state, and federal levels to reverse the downward spiral in the nation's middle-aged bedroom suburbs.
