Potential Utilization Method of Scrap Ceramic Insulators

To date, there has been no effective way to utilize scrap porcelain insulators generated by electricity transmission and distribution companies. An innovative method for incorporating used ceramic insulators in a cement process is described. Cement and the scrap insulators have similar chemical compositions. A novel way to introduce the scrap insulators into a cement rotary kiln is presented. Laboratory-scale experiments have shown that this insulator re-use process significantly reduces nitric oxide emissions from cement kilns.
