Trace Metals in Mediterranean Mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis (L.1758) and in Surficial Sediments from Urla-Yskele/Turkey

Samples of mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis and sediment were collected monthly over a 1-yr period at a site in Yzmir Bay, Turkey, and trace-metal concentrations were measured. The mean values of lead, cadmium, copper, and zinc in mussels ranged 0.71 0.74, 0.18 0.20, 1.30 1.57, and 14.18 20.82 mu g/...

Zusammenfassung:Samples of mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis and sediment were collected monthly over a 1-yr period at a site in Yzmir Bay, Turkey, and trace-metal concentrations were measured. The mean values of lead, cadmium, copper, and zinc in mussels ranged 0.71 0.74, 0.18 0.20, 1.30 1.57, and 14.18 20.82 mu g/g, respectively. Highest Cd, Cu, and Zn levels were noted in autumn, while highest Pb levels were found in spring. Mean sediment concentrations of Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn ranged 33.66 37.80, 1.76 1.89, 12.60 13.55, and 42.35 46.76 mu g/g, respectively.
