Zusammenfassung: | An instrument with digital readout was designed and constructed to provide rapid, simple and non-invasive measurement of X ray dental equipment parameters. The instrument is capable of measuring the entrance dose, exposure time, tube kVp, and filtration. It consists of a set of five photodiodes connected in the photovoltaic mode to the input of an integrating electrometer. Four of the detectors are fixed under copper and aluminium filters with variable thickness, for determining the tube kilovoltage and filtration. The signal of the bare detector can be used to assess the entrance dose, besides activating an electronic timer for measuring the exposure duration. The readings of the detectors permit determination of the half-value layer which, in turn, is used to calculate the tube filtration. The instrument was tested in X ray beams similar in quality to those used in intra-oral radiography. The results agreed with data obtained with a calibrated RMI-242 meter. |
