Zusammenfassung: | This research has the objective of determining the technological frontier and technical efficiency of higher education in Mexico. The methodology used is Data Envelopment Analysis. The results show that the states of Sonora and Sinaloa determine the technological frontier, and that the states of Nuevo Leon, Sinaloa, Sonora, and Tabasco are efficient in the sense of constant returns to scale; whereas the states of Distrito Federal, Jalisco, and Estado de Mexico are operating in the segment of decreasing returns to scale, and the states of Aguascalientes, Nayarit, and Puebla are in the segment of increasing returns to scale. In terms of variable returns to scale, the average technical efficiency is 0.71, which indicates that educational production could be expanded by approximately 30% by making better use of the factors of production.
