Zusammenfassung: | A discussion about the state of universities in the United States. Highlighted issues include universalism, meritocracy, skepticism, and communication. There are threats to academic freedom, especially to free enquiry, that we have seen over the last decade or so. There are also efforts by the government to impose politically ideological tests on science and their positions on science. There are even efforts to influence the content of the university curriculum. There is also the possibility that the rich will get richer and that great universities that are not as rich as the very rich will fall by the wayside and become in effect farm teams for the five or so super-rich universities.
