Zusammenfassung: | The sustainability of natural forest management practices depends on the ability of these forests to regenerate from disturbances. Results from a study investigating the demographic trends associated with natural regeneration dynamics in moist deciduous forests in southern India are presented. Estimates of the status of natural forest regeneration processes were made for eight localities experiencing different levels of disturbance in the Thrissur Forest Division of Kerala State. The characteristics of trees and the diverse regeneration processes were examined at three levels of organization: whole-stand, stratum, and specific species levels. Trees were grouped into upper, middle, and lower vertical strata. The middle stratum had the highest biodiversity. Species in the upper stratum had the highest economic value. |
