Zusammenfassung:Seasonal and diurnal profiles of nitrogenase activity of green gram (Vigna radiata var. aureus ), black gram (V. radiata var. mungo ), and pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan ) were determined. In all the three legumes the active period of nitrogen fixation was during reproductive growth, though the duration and rate of nitrogen fixation varied with the crop. In diurnal profiles, nitrogenase activity was optimum at noon, when the intensity of light was optimum.
