This month's featured review article; “Luminometer development in the last four decades: recollections of two entrepreneurs” is authored by Fritz Berthold and Veikko Tarkkanen. The review describes how coordinated R∓D activities in biochemistry and optical instrument development resulted in substantial applications of ATP bioluminescence in the food industry and beyond, including the design of more than 20 luminometers for immunoassays, DNA probe assays, and reporter gene assays.
