Zusammenfassung:Researches dealing with individual and societal bilingualism have been growing in Europe and United States for the past two decades. Although Brazil is one of the richest countries in language diversity, researches on these topics are still very few, mainly regarding indigenous languages in contact with Portuguese. My general goal is to contribute to the field by pointing out some findings of the addition of Portuguese to the native language of the Xerente Akwen indigenous people. Sociolinguistics and ethnosyntax theories are the support of my findings and analyzes. Data were collected through continuous "natural" observations, interviews and semi structured questionnaires during the past years (1988 on) showing the role of borrowings in this scenario. Results can be positive or negative when they are considered at different bilingual situations of the group. My specific goal is to provide to linguistic and educational policies done by the Xerente Akwen. Adapted from the source document
