On the Methodology of Discourse Analysis and Content Analysis

A new meta-model for sociolinguistics is presented & illustrated via a discourse analysis of 11 attested quotations from French economic texts. These examples demonstrate the relations between economics & state power as well as the fact that they are part of these relations themselves. It is shown that the sociological relations these texts set up are constructed through formal elements that rely on linguistic characteristics & have more stability than do aspects of content.
