Advanced parliamentary elections in Slovakia in 2012: - diminished Hungarian political prospects

On the 10th of March 2012, there were early parliamentary elections in Slovakia. Contrary to predictions, the right wing parties, among them those hoping for the support of the Hungarians in Slovakia: the Slovak-Hungarian Party Most-Híd (`Bridge') and the ethnic Hungarian Party of Hungarian Coalition finished worse than predicted by public opinion polls. As a result, the representation in parliament of the Hungarians in Slovakia and their ability to enforce their political interests has further weakened. Most-Híd has received one seat less than before with the present 13 members of parliament and the Party of Hungarian Coalition again fell short of reaching the five% threshold by more than half a percent.
